Product Description
PDSCo Inc Super Mud Liquid Polymer - 5 Gallon (DF SUPERMUD)
Description:
Super Mud is a liquid polymer slurry designed for use as a viscosifying agent and soil stabilizer, preventing borehole sloughing and collapse. Compared to bentonite, Super Mud offers a simpler, more efficient application.
Advantages:
- Easily mixes in both fresh and saltwater.
- Enhances drilling speed and efficiency.
- Non-toxic and non-fermenting formulation.
- Minimizes wear on pumps and drill bits; unlike bentonite, Super Mud slurry maintains a weight similar to water, requiring a lower pump rate.
- Prevents swelling in most clays and shales.
- Promotes rapid settling of cuttings at the bottom of the pit.
- Reduces fluid loss during drilling operations.
- Easily broken down for convenient disposal.
Mixing Procedure:
- Water Pretreatment: Adjust makeup water pH to 8-10 using Water Treat (1 lb per 200 gallons of fresh water or 1 lb per 100 gallons of brackish water).
- Mixing Ratios:
- Freshwater: 800:1 (Water to Super Mud)
- Brackish Water: 600:1 (Water to Super Mud)
These ratios achieve a Marsh Funnel Viscosity of 40+ and are suitable for most drilling conditions.
- pH Monitoring: The slurry’s pH may fluctuate based on soil composition. If needed, add a small amount of Water Treat to maintain stability, especially when working with salt or brackish water.
- Reuse or Breakdown: Super Mud slurry can be stored for reuse or broken down using household bleach (5% Sodium Hypochlorite) or 3% Hydrogen Peroxide at a ratio of 1 part breaker to 800 parts slurry. Proper circulation ensures complete oxidation of polymer molecules.
